what an exhausting day. i am posting late tonight. i didnt want to wait until tuesday to post. by the time i wake up and get moving it may have been more like afternoon before i got a chance to post...so here i am. late monday night. posting. about my long, exhausting day at numerous doctors offices. here is how it all played out...
i had a urology check up this morning at 9. before that i was to get an xray and ultrasound at 8. the urologist told me i have 7 stones in all that were visible on the ultrasound. two of which are 5mm. which is huge i might add. he said with my "situation" (being of very small size & with very low lung function & on oxygen etc.) it would be very bad if these stones (esp the 5mm) started to pass because... he does not want to operate on me. he does not want to have to sedate me for any reason. it is critical that these large stones stay put in my kidneys until at least after the lung transplant. it just isn't safe to put me under sedation as weak as i am. he basically said pray that the stones stay in your kidneys until we can get you these new lungs. hear that prayer warriors? my doctor is calling in a prescription for prayer. after leaving urology we talked to dannette. (we called to ask about these hives & to tell her my weekend was rough. {i hadn't reported to you guys yet, i had a rough sat/sun with a fever & increased cough}) she said to go on home that the dr probably wouldn't need to see me today. but to make an appointment with my PCP to look at the rash. so we did. we had literally been home 15 minutes and she called back to say the dr actually did want to see me. ugh. so we went back to vanderbilt at 2. after long discussion with the dr, she thought the rash might be from our detergent. (which i might add is not new. moms been using it for months. thats neither here nor there.) she upped my prednisone to 40mg, and she upped zantac to 300mg. (something about zantac in high doses makes it block hive making cells. i really dont know anything about this. i dont even know if i said this correctly. so thats all i will talk about it.) and she wants me to change detergents like right then. thats easy, we can do that. (she also tried to get me in with dermatology today but they didnt take my insurance. boo.) also, my pfts weren't much lower and she said to see how this prednisone makes me feel and if i still feel really bad tuesday or wednesday call her back about starting IVs. so. we left vanderbilt and i just didnt feel satisfied. i felt something was missing. i didnt know what it was. but it just wasn't there. i asked mom to call a family friend who is very knowledgeable in the medical field, especially dermatology. i really wanted him to take a look at me, especially since i couldn't get in with a dermatologist. after a very long discussion with him, talking about every and all, if any, changes that have been made recently. the only thing i could think of was the change in color of one single pill i take. a pill i have been taking since i was in my early teens. it went from being a blue pill to a red pill. he said it is a very very very good possibility that i am allergic to that certain red dye they used in that pill. and all we have to do is ask the pharmacy to give me the blue pill from now on. thats easy, we can do that. so. after a very very long day. and two trips to vanderbilt. i am praying we have a solution. i am going to take this 40mg prednisone , the 300mg zantac, and round the clock benadryl and hopefully knock out these hives. (which i might add grew over sunday night. but are slightly better tonight.) and stop taking the red pill. lets see how these hives are by the end of the week...
that was my long. exhausting. day at vanderbilt.
i am sorry that i did not post a Not Me! Monday. i wasn't here all day. obviously. and i just don't have the energy. also, you'll be reading this tuesday. so the point is moot. (pronounced mUte? or mOOt? tomāto. tomäto. who cares.) im rambling on. sorry. its late and ive been up since 6am. i should go to bed now.
until then,
leigh allyn
Prayers:
~specifically that these stones stay put in my kidneys. im like a walking grenade hoping the pin doesn't slip. scary.
~these mysterious hives disappear. soon.
~that the fever wont come back and i wont have to start IVs
