i am soo happy that i am here to give you a great report of the best week ever. if vh1 had me on their show this week- i would most certainly win "best week ever". yes!!!!!!!
rehab has been great. tuesdays and thursdays are workout days. this week i walked on the treadmill for 25 minutes then rode the bike for 10 minutes. then i stretch and do some strength training. as the weeks progress it will get harder and harder, and ill get better and better at it. my lungs will most likely gain some function back that ive lost in this past 6 months- time will only tell, and we will see. ill tell ya what though, i really really like the people at rehab. the trainers are amazing. they listen to me. they teach me. they treat me like a human being, not a project or a patient. i love them. i think they like me a lot too because everyone and im not exaggerating when i say everyone in rehab is greater than 70 years of age. so i think im a breath of fresh air to the trainers {who are all in their 20s as well} on wednesdays i have "breathing class" where myself and about 1o other 70 year old women sit in a semi-circle, while learning new breathing techniques to apply to our work out and our every day living. i have to say it probably is a funny sight to see myself and these ladies working out. ohh man im laughing now just thinking about it. dont get me wrong, they are very sweet little ladies, but we dont exactly have much in common {except the fact we cant breathe on a daily basis- but thats not the point} i also am taking harmonica lessons!!! hahaha! no, but really, we have about ten minutes of playing real songs on the harmonica...i guess to increase our lung function- i dont really know? but that is also a hilarious sight. me and 10 old ladies blowing away on our pink or neon green harmonica. {i chose pink, it matched my outfit that day and i stuck with it} i have to say im quite the expert at "twinkle twinkle little star". maybe ill post a video one day of me practicing?.....dont hold your breath. so all in all rehab is FANTASTIC...and wearing me out!
the insulin pump is also going amazingly. i LOVE it. one of the best decisions i have ever made! my blood glucose {BG} has been above 250 only 3 times, and 300 only once this whole week. and thats great compared to at least 1-2 in the 250's a day. and about 4- 300's a week. and i have some great news i cant hold in any longer..... i have gained 5 pounds since last wednesday!!!!!! i checked my weight from last week at diabetes and it was 88...today i weighed and it read 93!!!! isn't that amazing? praise the Lord, for He is good! thank you thank you thank you. without your loyal prayers on my behalf i couldn't have done this! i think this weight gain is directly ralated to the pump. my BG running great= no dehydration, no burning of calories, and lower numbers= a better appetite=weight gained!!!! which in turn will=better lung health. wooohooo!!!
stay tuned for up to date info on my weight gain progress!
until then,
leigh allyn
